Ranchi Traffic Challan: Portal, Court & Helplines
Last verified
Jharkhand has no separate state e-challan guide on this site yet, so this page covers both the general check-and-pay steps and what is Ranchi-specific: the portal, where a challan is settled, and what Jharkhand Police has and hasn’t published about towing and cameras.
Which portal actually handles a Ranchi challan?
echallan.jhpolice.gov.in is Jharkhand Police’s own statewide eChallan portal — its homepage describes it as an initiative of Jharkhand Police, Government of Jharkhand, offering online penalty payment, cashless payment through POS terminals, violation-history tracking, downloadable digital challan records, and SMS notices to violators. It is reachable today and is the portal that actually transacts a Ranchi challan; there is no Ranchi-only payment site. Jharkhand’s Transport Department site, transport.jharkhand.gov.in, separately links out to the central MoRTH NextGen portal (echallan.parivahan.nic.in) as a “Pay challan online” option, but that national portal could not be reached at the time of writing — use the Jharkhand Police portal below.
How do I check and pay a Ranchi e-challan?
- Go to echallan.jhpolice.gov.in and choose Pay Challan (Search Challan).
- Enter your vehicle registration number and challan number, plus the captcha shown.
- If a challan is found, pay it online through the portal’s payment gateway, or in cash/card at a listed POS terminal.
- For a portal issue rather than a dispute about the challan itself, email echallan-support@jhpolice.gov.in.
The portal does not ask for a DL number or an OTP to search — only the vehicle registration and challan numbers.
Where is a Ranchi traffic challan settled — court or Lok Adalat?
Two official routes, both anchored in Ranchi itself:
- DLSA Ranchi, based at Ranchi Civil Court — chairman phone 0651-2202600 / 2202414 / 2280613, secretary mobile 9905334568, email dlsaranchi@gmail.com — is the District Legal Services Authority that takes up compoundable traffic challans at National Lok Adalat sittings.
- JHALSA (Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority), headquartered at Nyaya Sadan, Near AG Office, Doranda, Ranchi – 834002 (phone 0651-3510941, email jhalsaranchi@gmail.com), organises the sittings across the state. Its own event listing names 12 September 2026 as the date of its “3rd National Lok Adalat” (inaugurated at Dhanbad) — matching the national sitting calendar of 14 March, 9 May, 12 September and 12 December 2026, with no Jharkhand-specific postponement of the kind Karnataka and Delhi had this year.
Only compoundable offences are taken up at a Lok Adalat, and the bench decides each case individually — see e-Challan Lok Adalat for how the sitting itself works. A challan that is not compoundable, or not settled at a sitting, is heard before the jurisdictional magistrate’s court in the normal way; neither jhpolice.gov.in nor JHALSA publishes a separate online “Virtual Court” for Jharkhand traffic challans.
What’s officially published about towing in Ranchi?
Nothing could be confirmed. Jharkhand Police’s main site and the eChallan portal do not publish a towing policy, a tow-crane procedure, or a list of pound/yard addresses for Ranchi. Until that changes, the reliable route for a towed vehicle is to call the Jharkhand Police DG Control Room, 0651-2446607, or dial 100 or 112.
Does Jharkhand Police publish Ranchi’s camera-enforcement zones?
No. There is no published list of camera-monitored junctions or roads in Ranchi, and no public breakdown of camera-issued versus on-the-spot challans. If you want to see the evidence behind a specific challan, check its Challan Print after searching it on echallan.jhpolice.gov.in — that is where a photo, if one exists, would appear, not a public zone map.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Ranchi-specific website to check a traffic challan?
No separate Ranchi site exists. Ranchi challans are checked and paid on Jharkhand Police's own statewide portal, echallan.jhpolice.gov.in — an "initiative of Jharkhand Police, Government of Jharkhand" that covers every district, Ranchi included. Search by vehicle registration number and challan number (plus a captcha) under "Pay Challan," then pay online or by cashless POS.
Where is a Ranchi traffic challan settled — court or Lok Adalat?
For compoundable offences, through a National Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi (DLSA Ranchi), based at Ranchi Civil Court (secretary mobile 9905334568, email dlsaranchi@gmail.com). The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), headquartered at Nyaya Sadan, Near AG Office, Doranda, Ranchi – 834002 (phone 0651-3510941, email jhalsaranchi@gmail.com), organises the sittings statewide and names 12 September 2026 as its 3rd National Lok Adalat date — matching the national calendar, with no Jharkhand-specific postponement like Karnataka's or Delhi's. A challan that isn't compoundable, or isn't settled at a sitting, is heard before the jurisdictional magistrate's court instead.
How do I find out about a towed vehicle in Ranchi?
Jharkhand Police has not published a towing policy, tow-crane procedure, or pound/yard address list for Ranchi on jhpolice.gov.in or echallan.jhpolice.gov.in. Until one is published, the reliable route is the Jharkhand Police DG Control Room, 0651-2446607, or dialling 100 or 112.
Does Jharkhand Police publish Ranchi's camera-enforcement zones?
No. Neither jhpolice.gov.in nor the eChallan portal lists which Ranchi junctions or roads are under camera-based enforcement, or breaks down camera-issued challans from on-the-spot ones. If you want evidence for a specific challan, the Challan Print after searching it on echallan.jhpolice.gov.in is the place to check, not a public list.
